County Residents must contract for their own garbage pickup.  M&M Sanitation - 859-936-1600 or BFI - 859-236-7700 are local providers.

Mercer County operates a volunteer recycling center at the county's road department facility at 898 Moberly Road.  The facility has an indoor center and an outdoor center.  The indoor center accepts paper (computer, assorted office, news, white ledger, magazine, books, telephone, junk mail and corrugated), plastic milk jugs, soft drink and detergent bottles and glass (green, white and brown).

The outdoor facility accepts tin & aluminum cans, eyeglasses, cell phones, batteries ( AA AAA D C, etc.) Grades 1 & 2 plastic bottles with recycling logo.

Convenience Center:  A Large item disposal area accepts metal aluminum, fencing (without wooden posts) refrigerator and freezers (doors must be removed) air conditioners, washers, dryers, TV's computers, batteries, couches, chairs, leaves, grass clippings, rock & dirt and other miscellaneous trash (not garbage) and paint (in a solid form!  hardener supplied free)

Tires are accepted for a fee ranging between $1.50 and $13.00 depending on size.

 
The center will not take propane tanks, lumber, drywall, roofing, insulation, chemicals, large styrofoam, household garbage, Tile & wood floors, or styrofoam trays. 

For trash, garbage and items not accepted at the Mercer County Convenience Center but no liquid paint, asbestos shingles, propane tanks or tires.  Cost is $47.50 a ton plus $1.75 a ton for an environmental impact charge.  320 lbs or less is $8.00 plus impact charge.
